Seniors in Mission Hill Dance at Neighborhood Celebration of Their Birthdays

Seniors in Mission Hill Dance at Neighborhood Celebration of Their Birthdays

The birthday tradition started a few years ago, when members of the Mission Hill Senior Legacy Project noticed older people in the neighborhood were often spending their birthdays alone. The advocacy group, which is run by seniors, decided to organize a party every few months for elders who had recently celebrated birthdays.

In mid-June, the group celebrated the birthdays of more than a dozen people, including Carmen Pola, co-founder of Mission Hill Senior Legacy Project and our story ambassador from Mission Hill.

It was a three-hour-long event at the Alice Taylor apartments, complete with multi-colored tablecloths, potted plants, a full barbecue lunch, birthday cake, gift bags, two rounds of Happy Birthday, and dancing to a DJ.
